CCDLA's Mission

  The Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (CCDLA) is an organization of approximately three hundred lawyers who are dedicated to defending persons accused of criminal and motor vehicle offenses. Founded in 1988, CCDLA is the only statewide criminal defense lawyer's organization in Connecticut. Our membership is from both the public and private sectors of the criminal defense bar. We are a not-for-profit organization that retains complete independence from outside funding sources by being supported solely by our members.

CCDLA is an affiliate of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and works to improve the criminal justice system by:

  • Insuring that the individual rights guaranteed by the Connecticut and United States Constitutions are applied fairly and equally and that those rights are not diminished;
  • Providing a unified voice for criminal defense attorneys before the legislative, executive and judicial branches of both the state and federal governments;
  • Promoting the improvement of criminal practice and procedure;
  • Providing a network for criminal defense attorneys to communicate;
  • Fostering, maintaining and encouraging the integrity, independence and expertise of criminal defense lawyers;
  • Holding meetings and seminars for criminal defense lawyers to provide a forum for the exchange of information regarding the practice of criminal law and the administration of criminal justice;
  • Educating the public about the role of criminal defense lawyers in our justice system as it relates to the protection of our individual rights and liberties.
